An Integrated Fight for Healthier and Safer Food
The food safety scandals of the past few years considerably increased the consumers’ demand for safer and healthier food, which created new challenges for the entire food industry. Master Good Ltd. has been working for years to meet those challenges.

The company, which is Hungary’s only full-scale poultry integration, took advantage of the fact that it owns the entire integration and thus controls every step of the production process, and launched its own programme, which covers the entire integration. The programme is intended to ensure that the entire poultry-farming branch of the company meets the highest level animal welfare requirements. Besides tracing the origins of the raw materials that are used in the integration (such as wheat, corn and soy), one of the most serious challenges today is the fight against salmonella. One can hear more and more about animal welfare at various forums. Over the past few decades, mass-production of poultry has become common, where little attention is paid to the living conditions of the animals. This is not only inhumane but also impairs the quality and taste of the meat. As the Chinese saying goes, “You are what you eat”.

After mobilizing enormous resources, our company launched a stringent inspection system to improve the living conditions of our mass-produced poultry. We take pride in the fact that the poultry products made in the frame of the homestead chicken programme we launched a few years ago are widely known today and despite their higher prices, more and more customers choose them over mass-produced chicken. Consumers have realized that the taste of “happy” chickens that grew up in a free-range environment is far better than that of mass-produced chickens.

Master Good Ltd. expends a great deal of effort to ensure that the poultry it sells feeds on the safest possible materials. Continuous laboratory examinations, samplings and the meticulous tracing of the origins of feed ingredients ensure that no genetically modified soy finds its way into our production system. Our company is also committed to environmental protection, including the preservation of rainforests, which is why we make sure by identifying the exact geographical location of the soy-growing territories that the soy we purchase is not grown along the Amazon River, that is, no rainforests were cleared for the purpose of their production.

The risk of salmonella is the most urgent problem of our days. The battle against salmonella is only possible within an integrated system because in order to produce a salmonella-free chicken, the parent flock, the egg, the hatchery, the fodder plant and the broiler plant all have to be free from salmonella. Every day, our staff performs laboratory tests on hundreds of samples taken in various stages of production to enable us to guarantee continuously high quality to our customers.

This year, we redesigned our packaging and introduced new drip-free wrapping. The new uniform packaging expected to be in place by July 2008 will include information about the animal welfare and food safety standards we observe during the production of the given item.
