As we reported on the first page, a poultry processing
plant was opened in Kisvárda. In his opening speech, László
Kordás, Under-secretary, called the project exemplary because
it was implemented by the pooling of private and governmental
resources. He said that the Ministry would promote projects
with similar financing structures in the future, and that
the government aimed to create conditions that would further
improve employment figures.
“The Group is very important for the county,” says László
Gazda, Chairman of the County Assembly, “because what it
does in 21 towns and villages is unmatched in the county,
and it is exactly this kind of enterprises that the county’s
agricultural and animal breeding sector lacks.
When the Chairman of the Romanian Parliament asked us if
we had any problem in the agricultural and animal breeding
sector, I said yes. The country’s first year as a member
of the EU revealed the competition the Hungarian agricultural
and animal breeding sector faces and we found that the biggest
problem was in farmers’ minds: They think that they can
only grow certain produce, and if there is demand for that,
they sell it, but if there is no demand, they can just turn
to the government for help because, after all, that is what
the government is for. Things don’t work this way any more.
Today, if people do not cooperate and do not pool their
resources in the frame of cooperatives, they will become
vulnerable and impoverished.
We are going to support this Group by any means. I hope
that their latest application, which would create 400 to
600 new jobs, is going to be accepted.”
